Amitayus Buddha

NEPAL; 14th century; Gilt copper alloy; H: 40 cm; Tibet House, New Delhi, India
Amitayus is seated in full lotus position and holds a jeweled water vessel. The figure wears an ornate five-leaf crown and jewelry inlaid with semi-precious stones. Blue paint is still visible in the hair and ornaments that fan out from the sides of the head. A thin stole is wrapped around the arms with the two ends floating buoyantly upwards. There is a diamond-shaped motif on the soles of the feet.
