Standing Bodhisattva

KOREA; Three Kingdoms Period (57 BCE–668 CE); Gilt bronze; H: 15.1 cm; National Museum of Korea, Seoul, South Korea
The square-featured Bodhisattva bends slightly forward. The figure 's hair is arranged on a three-pronged frame. The robes fall the length of the slender body in symmetrical fin-like folds. Stoles are fastened at the shoulders and hang to the knees in a double loop. Ambiguity in the origin exists among figures dating from the 6th century and possessing the styles from Eastern Wei (534–550) until Sui (581–618) dynasties in China. This statue was listed as Treasure No. 333 in 1963.
