Tumxuk: Head of a Buddha

| Discovered at Tumxuk, this artwork shows a gilded head with similar features to those from the area modeled in clay. Crescent eyebrows dip to define a broad nose above a small mouth and prominent chin. The heavy-lidded eyes are downcast. Snail-shell curls build to a rounded usnisa and the hollow placed mid-forehead retains the shape of the jeweled urna. The remaining ear is set well back and its extended lobe is hollowed for the reception of a jeweled ornament. |
