Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva and Attendants
CHINA; Qing dynasty (1644-1911); By Min Zhen; Line drawing on paper; 92.9 x 37.5 cm; Shanghai Museum, China |
| In this drawing, Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva is shown sitting on the back of an auspicious creature flanked by Sangharama, Skanda, Sudhana, Nagakanya, and the Four Heavenly Kings. The Bodhisattva has a peaceful expression, wears a headdress, and has a simple nimbus around the head. Swirling clouds fill the background. Fine, delicate lines and careful shading result in lively, detailed figures. |
