Fahai Temple Great Hero Hall: Skanda
CHINA, Beijing; Ming dynasty (1368-1644), dated 1443 |
| This image of Skanda is located on the far right of the mural portraying Brahma, Sakra, and Heavenly Beings on the north wall of the Great Hero Hall. Skanda wears a helmet and armor with decorative animal heads on the shoulders and belly. He has a noble bearing and a rounded chin. This image is similar to other depictions of Skanda in Buddhist temples from the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties, but is more refined and vivid. |
