Pingliang: Standing Buddha
CHINA, Gansu, Pingliang; Tang dynasty (618–907); Gilt bronze; H: 13.1 cm; Gansu Provincial Museum, Lanzhou, China |
| The robed Buddha stands on an inverted lotus pedestal. The head is inclined forward and the right hand is probably opened in the abhaya (fearlessness) mudra. A tenon found on the back of the head is where a nimbus was probably attached. |
