Pingliang: Standing Buddha

CHINA, Gansu, Pingliang; Tang dynasty (618–907); Gilt bronze; H: 13.1 cm; Gansu Provincial Museum, Lanzhou, China
The robed Buddha stands on an inverted lotus pedestal. The head is inclined forward and the right hand is probably opened in the abhaya (fearlessness) mudra. A tenon found on the back of the head is where a nimbus was probably attached.
