Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva

CHINA; Song dynasty (960–1279); Wood; H: 127 cm; Palace Museum, Beijing, China
The Bodhisattva is seated in the posture of royal ease with the right arm resting on the raised right knee. The figure wears an elaborate cloud-patterned headdress with a Buddha image. A double necklace hangs over the chest while a number of stoles are draped about the body. The folds of the skirt are carefully depicted to give a natural look. Traces of paint are still visible on some parts of the statue.
