Maijishan Grotto 62: Attendant Bodhisattvas
CHINA, Gansu, Tianshui; Northern Zhou dynasty (557–581); Clay |
| These three similar pairs of attendant Bodhisattva statues, located at the back, right, and left of Grotto 62, have elongated torsos and appear tall. The bare footed Bodhisattvas either wear a headdress or have a high topknot. Their bodies are embellished with ornamentation and stoles. Most of the statues are approximately 1.06 m to 1.12 m in height. The Bodhisattvas have warm and gentle smiles. They appear quite slender and majestic. |
