This head of a Buddha was excavated from the Chedi Chula Paton site in Nakhon Pathom, along with a large number of other stucco images. It dates to the 8th century during the Dvaravati Kingdom (circa 6th-13th century).
The Buddha's hair is depicted in a series of curls with a prominent usnisa in the form of a cone with a rounded apex. The eyebrows form a high arch and are almost joined. The eyes are downcast, the nose is prominent, and the mouth is large with thick lips. |
