Drak Lhalupuk Cave: Thonmi Sambhota

| This statue is located in Drak Lhalupuk, the meditation cave where Songtsan Gampo (reigned 629–650) is said to have retreated. Thonmi Sambhota was a minister of Songtsan Gampo and is said to have devised the Tibetan script. Thonmi Sambhota is depicted wearing a beige headdress and a orange robe with blue edges, tied at the waist with a butterfly knot. A sutra case is held near his chest. |
