Seated Buddha

The robed Buddha sits cross-legged on a square Sumeru throne with hands in a version of dhyana (meditation) mudra. The throne is supported by a four-legged stand with an engraved band across the top.
The Buddha has a large usnisa and a disproportionately large head set on a thick neck. The flame-shaped mandorla behind the figure has a plain interior with flames surrounding its edge. Three seated Buddhas encircle the main figure with radiating nimbuses. The work has the characteristics of the Taihe period (477–499). |
