Dajue Temple Great Hero Hall: Sakyamuni Buddha

CHINA, Jiangsu, Yixing; Dated 2011; Jade; H: 15 m
The statue of Sakyamuni in the Great Hero Hall was carved in China using Burmese jade and weighs 480 t. It is the world's largest seated Sakyamuni Buddha statue made from Burmese jade. The figure is seated in full lotus position with hands in dhyana (meditation) mudra. The figure's monastic robe is opened at the front and reveals the inner robe. The only body adornment is the swastika on the Buddha's chest. Wooden reliefs of the Western Pure Land and the Eastern Pure Land are on the walls on either side.
