Pujing Temple Great Hero Hall: Manjusri Bodhisattva
CHINA, Shanxi, Linfen; Yuan dynasty (1271–1368); Clay; H: 315 cm |
| Manjusri is located on the right side of Sakyamuni Buddha in the Great Hero Hall. The Bodhisattva is holding a ruyi (wish-fulfilling talisman) in the right hand. A tall, jeweled crown with side decoration is worn by the figure and appears to be fronted with a Buddha. A large urna is placed mid-brow and the face below, with its steady gaze and pursed lips, is majestic. The magnificent robe has a floral decorated hem and drapes down the body in generous folds. The chest bare allows the golden necklace beneath to be seen. The body inclines slightly forward with heels placed together and feet facing outwards on the edge of the small lotus pedestal. |
