Baoding: Sakyamuni Buddha

| The statue was discovered in Mengcun, a village within Baoding. Sakyamuni Buddha stands on an inverted lotus pedestal with the right hand in abhaya (fearlessness) mudra. The monastic robe leaves the right shoulder bare and clings about the legs. Surrounded by a flaming mandorla, the aureole and lotus nimbus interlock and are surrounded by a flaming mandorla. The pedestal is supported by a four-legged stand with incised seated Buddhas. An inscription is located at the bottom right-hand corner of the stand states Zhang Cidai commissioned the statue in 475. |
