Wu Yuanzhi

CHINA, Beijing; Jin dynasty (1115–1234)
Also known as Shanfu, Wu Yuanzhi was a painter from Zhongdu (present day Beijing). He became an Imperial Scholar during the rule of Emperor Zhangzong (reigned 1189-1208) of the Jin dynasty, and was skilled in landscape painting. Wu's brush technique is considered intricate and structured, yet harnesses strong enough brushstrokes to accurately depict the ruggedness of mountain cliffs.
Wu's works include Red Cliffs, kept at the National Palace Museum in Taipei, Taiwan. Morning Clouds, Bright Snow, and others are recorded in Highlights of Painting History.
