CHINA; Qing dynasty (1644–1911); Bamboo; H: 35 cm;Nanjing University, Jiangsu, China |
| This bamboo sculpture portrays Hanshan and Shide with round, robust faces and joyful smiles. Hanshan stands while holding a lotus stalk in his right hand, the flower and the leaves of which cover the top of his head. He tilts his head down toward Shide, who is seated. In Shide's left hand is a gourd-shape bottle, and his right hand is placed on a bamboo basket. His head is turned up as he looks into Hanshan's eyes. |
