Kongorinji Temple: Garland
JAPAN, Shiga, Aisho; Kamakura period (1185–1333); Gilt bronze; 31.5 x 34.9 cm |
| This ritual garland is shaped like a fan with rounded corners. There is a knotted ribbon hanging down in the center of the garland. On either side, there is a background of openwork in the form of scrolling leaves, on which there are blossoming lotuses and lotus buds in a symmetrical layout. The lower edge of the garland is decorated with bells and tassels attached to the ends of the ribbon. |
