Xiude Temple: Maitreya Buddha Triad

The sculpture was excavated from the Xiude Temple site in 1953. It contains Maitreya and two attendant Bodhisattvas. Maitreya stands on an inverted lotus pedestal with hands in abhaya (fearlessness) and varada (wish-granting) mudras. The Bodhisattvas on either side are smaller but stand on taller pedestals. There is an incense burner flanked by lions along the base. An inscription identifies the main statue and states it was offered by Zhang Wenxue in 585.
