Guanghua Temple
CHINA, Shanxi, Jinzhong |
Guanghua stands for Light Transformation. The temple was built in 639 during the Tang dynasty. It was rebuilt and repaired at various times. It was listed as a National Cultural Heritage Site in 2006.
The temple faces south and its surviving buildings include the Great Hero Hall, rear hall, and the west side hall. The five-by-four bay Great Hero Hall has a single-eave hip-and-gable roof with simple bracket sets supporting the eaves. Inside the building, the beams, camel-hump braces, wooden supports above rough tie beams, and the inclusion of the king post are all architectural features of the Song (960-1279) and Jin (1115-1234) dynasties. |
