oling Monastery: Aksobhya Buddha

CHINA, Tibet, Ngari; 14th–15th century; Gilt copper alloy; H: 13 cm
Aksobhya, the Immovable Buddha of mirror-like wisdom, sits in full lotus position upon the double lotus pedestal with his attribute of a vajra before him. The right hand is lowered in bhumisparsa (earth-touching) mudra. This 14th to 15th century sculpture has rudimentary features and rough lines indicating the monastic garments.
