The statue is located on a cliff top overlooking a valley. The figure is in meditation, seated in full lotus position with the right hand in bhumisparsa (earth-touching) mudra. The lotus throne is 117 cm high and consists of a lotus seat balanced on an octagonal Sumeru pillar, which then rests on an inverse lotus base. Each side of the pillar is fluted and has engravings of doors. Another base is located not far from the statue, and is believed to be remnants of a stone lantern. Buddha statues seated on tall thrones became popular after the 9th century. However, Buddha statues in the bhumisparsa mudra became popular during the 8th century. The statue was listed as Treasure No. 295 in 1963. |
