Seokguram Grotto: Samantabhadra Bodhisattva

This relief faces Sakyamuni Buddha in the main chamber. Standing on a lotus blossom, Samantabhadra Bodhisattva wears a headdress and is dressed in flowing garments with stoles hanging over the arms and shoulders and down to the lotus pedestal. A cup is held in the right hand, while the left arm hangs down naturally. The soft and lifelike curves of the body lend a relaxed appearance to the figure. Samantabhadra appears almost identical to the opposing relief of Manjusri Bodhisattva on the other side, the only difference being the object held in the hand. |
