This plate was excavated from a Buddhist ruin site and is inscribed with an image of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, suggesting that it was used for making offerings.
The plate has a flat base and a brim decorated with two dragons. The surface of the dish features a delicate image of Avalokitesvara at the center, surrounded by trees and a cloud pattern. The Bodhisattva is depicted holding a willow branch and standing on a turbulent sea; Sudhana can be seen sailing on a boat in front. This work of art has fluent lines and delicate engravings which creates a balance between the surface decoration and its form. |
