Eunhaesa Temple Unbuam Hermitage: Seated Bodhisattva

SOUTH KOREA, North Gyeongsang, Yeongcheon; circa 15th century; Bronze; H: 102 cm
The figure sits in half lotus position with one hand raised and the other lowered in the lotus mudra. The rich ornaments the Bodhisattva wears overspread the clothing but the main focus of attention is the elaborate headdress. The crown has the figure of a Buddha on one of the blazing ornaments about it and floating ribands that descend on either side of the head. Stylistically the statue can be dated from the mid-15th century. It was listed as Treasure No. 514 in 1969.
