Kailu White Stupa
CHINA, Inner Mongolia, Tongliao
The stupa was built in 1279 during the Yuan dynasty, and it is one of the few Tibetan stupas of the Yuan dynasty (1271-1368) preserved in Inner Mongolia. It was listed as a National Cultural Heritage Site in 2001.
The stupa is 17.7 m high. It stands on a square base platform on top of which there is a square base with a height of 4.1 m. There is an arched doorway on the south side. On top of the base there are five steps leading to the hollow dome, which is 3.7 m high. The arched doorway on the south side leads to a square chamber at the heart of the stupa. The spire on top of the square harmika consists of 13 octagonal stacked rings surmounted by an inverted bowl and a gourd shape finial. |
