The two Dharma protectors painted in the lower register of the west wall in the middle hall are identified by inscriptions as left Dharma protector" and "right Dharma protector." The left Dharma protector wears a headdress and a suit of armor. He has a nimbus decorated with curving flame patterns and is surrounded by swirling clouds. His right hand holds a sword and his left hand grasps the stole draped around his shoulders. The right Dharma protector has a similar appearance
