Hongfo Pagoda: Tsatsas of Stupas

CHINA, Ningxia, Yinchuan; Western Xia period (1032–1227); Clay; H: 7 cm; Ningxia Museum, Yinchuan, China
These tsatsas consist of a curved base and conical stupa. The bases have two rows of large deep blue lotus petals, outlined in white, while the top is colored in orange. The stupas are molded with 107 smaller stupas arranged in four tiers. The bottom of each stupa body is decorated with one row of Sanskrit seed syllables and a lotus pattern. There are traces of gilding which has worn away, and the spires have been damaged.
