Sumberawan Stupa

INDONESIA, East Java, Malang
This is one of only two known Buddhist stupas in East Java and is believed to have been built in the 14th century during the time of the Majapahit Empire (1293-1500). According to the Javanese epic poem Nagarakrtagama, King Hayam Wuruk (reigned 1350-1389) visited this area in 1359.
　 The present height of this brick stupa is 5.2 m with a side length of 6.4 m at the base. The platform consists of two layers in the form of a Sumeru throne. Above that there is the octagonal base of the body which is in the form of an inverted bowl. The spire and finial are missing.
