CHINA, Gansu, Dunhuang; Tang dynasty (618–907); Clay
Located on the left side of the niche in the back (west) wall of the main chamber, this Bodhisattva has a full, round face, downcast eyes, rosebud lips, and elongated earlobes. Inclined slightly to one side and standing barefoot on a lotus pedestal, the Bodhisattva has a stole draped over the shoulders and wears a green robe decorated with floral motifs. The stomach protrudes outwards slightly above the waist. Touches of green can be seen on the eyebrows and around the mouth.
