Mogao Caves: Standing Bodhisattva

The sculpture is thought to have been originally from Mogao Cave 111. The Bodhisattva is adorned with a ringed crown and the plaited hair extends past the shoulders. The figure gazes outward with a gentle expression, the neck has three lines and a necklaces is worn across the chest. The Bodhisattva wears stoles and a diaphanous lower garment decorated with colored honeysuckle and floral patterns. The body is inclined to one side and the arms are raised slightly by the elbows. The figure appears about to step forward. The light, gentle demeanor appears active and realistic. |
