Yulin Cave 29: Vajrapani
CHINA, Gansu, Guazhou; Western Xia period (1032–1227)
The mural is located on the right side of the east wall. Vajrapani depicted in this mural is portrayed with wrathful and demonic features. The figure wears a headdress on top of spiked yellow hair and has three eyes. The body is adorned with necklaces, ornaments, armlets, and a long garland of flowers that reaches the floor. Vajrapani has a piece of tiger skin tied at the waist. A three-pronged vajra is held in one upraised hand, while a snake is held in the other. |
