Bokyongdong: Seated Buddha

SOUTH KOREA, North Gyeongsang, Sangju; Goryeo dynasty (918–1392); Granite; H: 147 cm
Though much of the statue has been damaged, the soles of the figure's feet prove that he was seated in a cross-legged position. The face is still intact despite the damage, and some curls are visible on one side of the head. The hands are held together in front of the chest, although it is uncertain what mudra was made. The Buddha wears a monastic robe that covers both shoulders with rippling fan shaped folds. This statue was listed as Treasure No. 119 in 1963.
