Shalu Monastery Central Hall Gosum Shrine: Chetsun Sherab Jungnay

This mural is painted in the Gosum Shrine, which adjoins the assembly hall on the first story of the central hall. Chetsun Sherab Jungnay was the founder of Shalu Monastery. He is portrayed with thin eyebrows, lowered eyelids, and a wide forehead. Dressed in a red hat and a monastic robe, he sits in lotus position on a lotus throne and holds both hands in front of his chest, forming the Dharmacakra (Dharma wheel) mudra. The blue nimbus and green aureole are filled with scrolling vine patterns. Chetsun Sherab Jungnay is surrounded by an ornate arch topped with the face of a garuda. Six lineage holders are painted in the upper corners. Chetsun Sherab Jungnay's eight senior disciples are depicted at the bottom of the image. |
