Maijishan Grotto 62: Attendant Bodhisattvas

CHINA, Gansu, Tianshui; Northern Zhou dynasty (557–581); Clay
These three similar pairs of attendant Bodhisattva statues, located at the back, right, and left of Grotto 62, have elongated torsos and appear tall. The bare footed Bodhisattvas either wear a headdress or have a high topknot. Their bodies are embellished with ornamentation and stoles. Most of the statues are approximately 1.06 m to 1.12 m in height. The Bodhisattvas have warm and gentle smiles. They appear quite slender and majestic.
