Postscript on the Sixteen Arhats
CHINA; Yuan dynasty (1271–1368); By Shen Fu; Running script; Ink on paper; 25.1 x 50.1 cm; National Palace Museum, Taipei, Taiwan
This work of calligraphy, produced by Shen Fu, consists of 213 characters in 18 lines. The text is a postscript on an image of the Sixteen Arhats, describing the figures.
Stylistically, this piece closely resembles the works of Zhao Mengfu, whose influence on Shen Fu is evident. Brushstrokes are applied swiftly with confidence and consistency forming implicit links, and the characters are well-composed. The overall work exhibits elements of the Tang (618-907) and Jin (1115-1234) dynasties. |
