CHINA, Gansu, Qingyang; Northern Wei dynasty (386–534); Stone
These statues are located on either side of the cave entrance. The Heavenly Kings wear armor and boots, the style of which is characteristic of soldiers from the Northern Wei dynasty (386-534). The arms and chest area of the statue on the right side of the entrance have been heavily weathered and are damaged. The figures wear pointed helmets, and their expressions are locked in a tense scowl. Overall, the figures appear imposing and forceful.
