Manjusri Bodhisattva

Manjusri wears a high, ornate crown surmounted by a gem stone. The crown has side pieces from which ribbons hang and fly buoyantly upward. The turn of the waist gives the body a sinuous curve that tilts the square face to one side, adding to the dynamic movement of the work.
Wearing ornate jewelry, the Bodhisattva raises the distinguishing attribute, the sword of discernment, in the right hand. The left hand holds a narrow sutra case at chest level. A sash hangs from both arms to the base, from which the ends turn upwards. The figure seated in full lotus position upon a simple, double-tier lotus throne. |
