The Amitabha Buddha is from Chongguang Temple. He was originally flanked by two Bodhisattvas, of which the Avalokitesvara figure is now in the Tokyo National Museum. The slightly raised folds of the Buddha's monastic robe ripple downwards and are overlaid by the elegantly tied bow of the inner robe. Although both hands are missing, it can be assumed that they were in abhaya (fearlessness) and varada (wish-granting) mudras. An inscription states that around 80 people from the Hancui village dedicated the white marble Amitabha and two Bodhisattvas to Chongguang Temple in 585. |
