Lhuntse Dzong: Stupa

This 17th century work of art consists of a base, body, and finial. The circular Sumeru base has a ring of beads at the bottom, followed by thick lotus petals with upturned tips. There are then two rows of beads, three plain rings, and a further row of beads. The body is in the form of an inverted bowl, and is decorated with garlands of jewels inlaid with turquoise and various gems. The multi-cornered harmika develops into a jeweled crown-like lotus base for the 13 stacked rings. The canopy is decorated with lotus petals inlaid with gems and the finial is shaped like a miniature stupa. |
