Ruyi
ynasty (1644–1911), dated 1796–1820; Jade; L: 40 cm; Palace Museum, Beijing, China
This jade ruyi has a flat, round head with cloud patterns on the rim and a peach attached to a broken branch in the center. The handle is bent slightly upwards in the middle, and becomes wider at the end where there is a bat symbol. Along the handle, there is a poetic inscription in regular script relating to the commissioning of the ruyi by Emperor Jiaqing (reigned 1796-1820) of the Qing dynasty. There is a golden tassel attached to the handle. |
