Buddha Triad

The three statues are supported on a rectangular platform engraved with an inscription on the front side. The central Buddha stands on an inverted lotus pedestal placed on an openwork base. A petal-shaped nimbus frames the Buddha's head and he wears a monastic robe with simple incised folds. The hands are held in the abhaya (fearlessness) and varada (wish-granting) mudras. The accompanying Bodhisattvas stand on foliage slotted into the platform. They wear crowns with ribbons and stoles that drape buoyantly down their slim bodies. They carry attributes in one hand. Petal-shaped nimbuses tilt forward from behind the Bodhisattva's heads. |
