Portable Shrine with Green Tara

This Tibetan ga'u (portable shrine) is shaped like an ogee arch. It measures 21.3 cm high, 16.6 cm wide, and 9 cm deep. An image of Green Tara is enshrined within the niche, which is bordered with pearls and openwork in the form of dragons and vines. There is a garuda at the top of the openwork, and the bottom features a Dharma wheel flanked by two deer and two lions. There is an image of Sakyamuni Buddha above the niche and an image of Mahadevi below. At the sides of the niche, there are rubies, sapphires, and eight heavenly beings making offerings. Silver loops on each side of the shrine allow it to be suspended. |
