Piyang Cave 1: Diamond Realm Mandala

CHINA, Tibet, Ngari; circa 11th century
This mural is located in the center of the west wall in Cave 1 of Area 1, and depicts the Diamond Realm Mandala. Contained within the central circle are four other circles, all of which are composed of vajras. A fifth circle in the center is outlined in black and contains the court of Vairocana Buddha. The four outer circles feature Amitabha at the top, Ratnasambhava on the right, Aksobhya at the bottom, and Amoghasiddhi at the left.
