Jin Shufang

CHINA; Ming dynasty (1368–1644)
Jin Shufang was an embroidery artist. Her well-known piece, Embroidery of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, is currently retained at the Palace Museum in Beijing. The intricately embroidered image features a combination of over ten complex sewing techniques. Central to the artwork is the figure of a seated Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, leaning on a rock. Both of Avalokitesvara's eyes gaze down at a set of dragons emerging from the water below, while Skanda observes cautiously from behind the rock.
