Anguo Temple: Akasagarbha Bodhisattva

The statue was excavated from Anguo Temple in 1959. There is uncertainty regarding the identity of the figure, due to the damage to the right hand, which may have held an identifying attribute.
The figure's head is tilted slightly upwards and to one side. The headdress and the rest of the body are adorned with ornaments and jewelry. A long stole twines its way around the body and drapes down the sides of the ornate throne on which the Bodhisattva sits in full lotus position. The remaining left hand holds a long-stemmed lotus that supports a scripture at shoulder height. The throne rests on a round base and is carved with lotus petals, clouds, and a pomegranate motif. |
