Pucheng North Pagoda

The pagoda was built on the grounds of Chongshou Temple, which no longer exists. It was constructed in 1096 during the Northern Song dynasty. Its roof was damaged by the earthquake of 1555 during the Ming dynasty. The whole pagoda was repaired in 1985. It was listed as a Provincial Cultural Heritage Site in 1957.
The 13-story, square, hollow, brick pagoda is 44.4 m high and is built in imitation of a wooden structure. The first story is exceptionally high with the entrance located on the south side. From the second story upwards, each side is divided into three bays by brick pilasters, which are connected by architraves. An arched doorway, either real or fake, is present on every side. The eaves are in the form of corbeling with courses of dogtooth bricks below. A Buddha image is carved into the south wall of the fourth story. |
