Sakyamuni and Prabhutaratna Buddhas

The two Buddhas are identical in appearance, both wear monastic robes that cover the entire body and sit cross-legged with hands tucked into the sleeves. A concentrically radiating nimbus is behind each head and the pair are united within a petal-shaped mandorla filled with flame patterns. The floating stupa in which Prabhutaratna has arrived to attend Sakyamuni's exposition of the Lotus Sutra is above the figures. The composition is mounted on a four-legged base. An inscription on the base states the sculpture was dedicated in 485 on behalf of the donor's parents. |
