Famen Temple Pagoda: Robe

This monastic robe has two layers and is rectangular in shape. The outer layer is made of fine red silk; the inner layer, also red in color, is made of a finer and thinner silk. Embroidered with gold thread, the robe is comprised of 21 patches sewn together in seven strips. Each strip is made up of two long patches and one short patch, both embroidered with a lotus. The columns separating the strips are decorated with floating clouds, which also decorate the border. |
