Phurpa
CHINA; Qing dynasty (1644–1911); Gilt copper alloy; H: 31.1 cm; Palace Museum, Beijing, China
This phurpa consists of a handle and a blade. The handle is comprised of three warriors' heads in colors of red, white, and green. They wear skull crowns and dangling earrings, and each forehead has a prominent third eye. With staring eyes and open mouths, they have a wrathful appearance.
The three-edged blade emerges from a makara's mouth, positioned directly beneath the handle. The blade is decorated with a scroll leaf pattern. |
