Mogao Cave 302: King Sudhira Jataka
CHINA, Gansu, Dunhuang; Sui dynasty (581–618)
This painting is on the east slope of the ceiling and is the third in a series of single-scene representations of the Jatakas. King Sudhira sits peacefully on a Sumeru throne. His palms are joined in reverence. A figure stands before him and raises a knife, about to remove the king’s eyes. |
